Property Locations - Fair Oaks

Fair Oaks is a well-preserved small town with rolling hills, oak, orange and almond trees and situated on the north bank of the beautiful American River. The nearby Nimbus Dam and Folsom Lake enhance Fair Oaks’ natural beauty.

The town is in the heart of the San Juan District and named after an old Mexican land grant, the San Juan Rancho. Approximately 20,000 acres of this grant encompassed all of the now Fair Oaks area and most of Carmichael, Citrus Heights, and Orangevale. In 1849, a year after the discovery of gold in Coloma, the land was purchased by miner Fred Cox, who later became a state senator. In the early 1890's some 6,000 acres of land were purchased from Senator Cox, subdivided into smaller tracts and named Fair Oaks.

Fair Oaks Recreation and Park District offers a wide variety of programs and recreation facilities for people of all ages. Nine city parks, of over 125 acres, are maintained by the district and feature lighted tennis courts, ball diamonds and district-sponsored leagues.

The Plaza and Village Park complex houses the community’s clubhouse, outdoor amphitheater and crafts building.

Other recreational attractions in the Fair Oaks area include, the 114-acre Sailor Bar Park and the American River Parkway and bicycle path, both maintained by Sacramento County. Boating on Lake Natoma and fishing on the American River are other popular pastimes with area residents.

Fair Oaks has now become a suburb to Sacramento, but still retains its own individuality. It boasts numerous retail establishments and shops. As Sacramento grows, industry is moving toward the Fair Oaks area because of its open land, water, and power from the Central Valley Project.

Located between U.S. Highway 50 and Interstate 80, just 25 minutes northeast of Sacramento, and 35 minutes from the Sacramento International Airport.

San Francisco is a 2 hour drive to the southwest and the South Shore of Lake Tahoe and its Ski Resorts are 1-1/2 hours to the southeast.
